When we talk about summer what stuff pop out your mind? Beach, swimwear and shades are some of the common summer trend. Right? Fun under the heat of the sun is always accompanied by perspiration and extreme thirst. Aside from the amazing water, what tasty drink comes first in your list in order to clench that thirst? Fruit juice, soda or your favorite Buko juice - coconut watercarbonated soft drinks? How about a taste of a popular summer drink packed with vital nutrients? Have you ever tried sipping on a coconut with green husk using a straw and pause for a while and say ahhhh…it’s so refreshing! Well, that nature’s “buko” juice is the superstar of our discussion.

Coconut milk vs. Coconut water

Let’s try to understand the difference between coconut milk and coconut water. According to Wikipedia, coconut milk is defined as a liquid that comes from the grated meat of a coconut. The color and rich taste of the milk can be attributed to the high oil content. Most of the fat is saturated fat. Coconut milk is a very popular food ingredient used in Southeast Asia especially in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines. On the other hand, coconut water is defined as the clear liquid inside young coconuts (fruits of the coconut palm). It has long been a popular drink in the tropics, especially in India, Brazilian Coast, Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands, Africa and the Caribbean, where it is available fresh, canned or bottled.

Coconut water is a sterile nature’s gift. Let’s enjoy drinking fresh fluids that are unpasteurized, no preservatives and no artificial sweeteners. Plain water is the best among the others. But remember, coconut water ranks the second.

Coconut water has high-potassium content. The amount of potassium present in it is greater than the quantity found in bananas. It may help reduce a person’s risk of hypertension and stroke.

Coconut water is low in fat and cholesterol free. Drinking coconut water will give a feeling of fullness therefore, it can aid in weight reduction and trimming a person’s food craving.

Coconut water is a natural diuretic. It reduces the risk of kidney stone formation because its composition can increase urine flow and production.

Coconut water has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. Healthy people should include coconut water as their choice of drinks. How about the sick ones? They too can drink coconut water especially those attacked by a certain bacteria or virus. As long as the patient’s don’t need to restrict their potassium intake.

Coconut water is an exceptional drink for people suffering from diabetes. Since it contain good nutrients required to keep their sugar levels in control.

Coconut water is loaded with essential nutrients.  It is a very rich source of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, dietary fiber, amino acids, enzymes and minerals like potassium, magnesium and manganese.

Coconut water contains antioxidants and anti-aging properties.  The cytokinins found in it is said to be beneficial to the skin, nails and hair.

Aside from pure water, please don’t hesitate to choose coconut water as one of your favorite health drinks!
