The total number of hairs on a person’s scalp is estimated to be about 100, 000. It is believed that 40 to 100 hairs are normally lost daily. Among the factors that affect hair loss are age, sex, race and probably hereditary tendencies. A lot of people especially the female group are concerned with the problem known as “hair fall”. Every day, you might be facing this or you can witness a common picture in the bathroom. After taking a shower, hair fall is visible on the floor. A bedroom is another area wherein hair fall is scattered everywhere, particularly near the mirror. This is a place in which countless combing of hair happens daily. This problem might be simple but it troubles you a lot because you are afraid that one day, only a few number of hair strands will be found in your scalp.
There are numerous causes of hair loss. The most common ones are poor scalp care, trauma to the scalp with use of sharp- toothed comb or hormonal imbalance. Hair loss has also been noted to result from allergic reaction due to drugs, hair dyes, conditioner, hair treatment or even shampoos. Not very frequently, it can also be a manifestation of a systemic illness like hypothyroidism, tuberculosis, and malignancy; even malnutrition or a lack of certain essential food nutrients.
If you are suspecting a more serious problem, or if the problem still persists despite the measure taken above, then you may seek the help of your family doctor or a dermatologist. A good physical examination will show other signs of an underlying illness.
