I’m one of those women who are super conscious with their looks. Since I believe that your appearance counts a lot, I looked for some beauty secrets to try. Surprisingly, you don’t really have to spend a lot since the secret is just within your reach. I conveniently listed down how you can benefit a lot from the stuff you have at home. Whether you are a kitchen buddy, or someone who hardly visits the kitchen, these awesome household supplies will surely work wonders.

1. Bananas can restore the hair’s natural elasticity.

Thanks to its high levels of potassium, bananas can be used as hair treatment. To achieve shiny tresses, all you have to do is mash one banana in a bowl using a fork. Then, apply the mashed banana onto your hair from root to tip. Make it settle for 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly using shampoo.

2. Egg whites can be used to treat acne scars.

The trick is by using egg whites and tissue paper as a facial mask. All you need is to separate 2-3 egg whites and beat until it turns into a foam. Adding 1 tbsp of lemon or calamansi juice helps in loosening those stubborn blackheads. Paint the recipe on your face and apply the tissue paper. Let it stay for 20-30 minutes. Once dry, peel the tissue paper and wash you face with warm water. Use this every once a week and you’ll soon have a clear flawless skin.

3. Baking soda has powerful properties that can whiten the teeth.

Mix 1 tbsp of baking soda to a small amount of toothpaste and ½ tsp of water. See to it that it has the same consistency as regular toothpaste. Use this formula as your alternative toothpaste and brush onto teeth for two minutes.

4. Potatoes help reduce swelling and puffiness of the eyes.

Shred a small amount of potato and store it in the refrigerator to chill. Then, place the potato under your eyes for 15 minutes. After removing them, you’ll notice less puffiness in your eyes. When used regularly, potatoes can also reduce dark circles around the eyes.

5. Cornstarch can be used as part of a recipe to make homemade deodorant.

So, here’s how it works; mix ¼ cup cornstarch, ¼ cup baking soda, and 5-6 tbsp coconut oil. You may or may not add 5-20 drops of tea tree oil. Store it in an old deo container and keep it in the fridge.

6. Sugar reveals your skin’s natural radiance.

Pamper your skin with this spa-like formula using sugar as a body scrub. You may use white or brown sugar and mix it with equal amounts of olive oil. Sugar has properties that exfoliates and purifies the skin. This unique blend is non-irritating especially for sensitive skin. Apply gently using a circular motion and let it stay for three minutes. Rinse thoroughly using warm water.

7. Vinegar eliminates unwanted odor of the armpits and feet.

Do your underarms smell so bad?  Worry no more ‘cause vinegar is here to the rescue! Mix equal amounts of water and vinegar and use as a substitute for commercial deodorants. Suffering from athlete’s foot? Place your feet in a vinegar foot bath using equal amounts of water and vinegar. Its antibacterial properties eliminate odor-causing bacteria and improves your condition.

8. Garlic for stronger tips.

A secret used by Dominican women, garlic can be applied with nail polish to achieve stronger nails. Add chopped garlic to a bottle of clear nail polish. Set aside the formula for seven to ten days and paint the mixture to your nails.

9. Mayonnaise as a deep hair conditioner.

This particular secret is the one I’ve been using since high school and is proven to maintain moisture and softness of the hair. Using your fingertips, apply the mayonnaise on your hair. Gently massage your hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Enjoy long lasting softness of your hair with this awesome ingredient.

10. Turmeric powder for cracked heels.

A classic Indian ingredient, turmeric or “haldi” is used to promote healing of cracks. Before shower, apply the turmeric powder mixed with coconut oil to soothe cracked heels.

Your kitchen is full of fab stuffs which can be alternative for over-the-counter cosmetics. I won’t tell you to ditch and throw away your beloved beauty products however, these recipes can surely work during emergencies; especially when you are on a budget. Tired of expensive, harsh cosmetics that doesn’t work? Go natural for healthier, more skin-friendly products.
